CoB Teaching and Learning Initiative
Presented October 24, 2008 at the University of Louisville College of Business
By Andrew L. Wright
Abstract: Andrew L. Wright, Assistant Professor of Computer Information Systems, will discuss four new instructional technology tools now available at UofL that may be used to enhance teaching and learning.
SafeAssign is a plagiarism prevention service that helps prevent plagiarism by detecting unoriginal content in student papers submitted using Blackboard. Tegrity is the university’s new class capture system. It can be used to record the instructor’s computer screen and voice, providing students with an opportunity to replay class content online, or on iPods and other mobile devices. Blogs and wikis are tools popularized in social network sites, now available in Blackboard. Blog (an abbreviation of the phrase “weB LOG”) is simply a term used to describe an online journal. This tool can be used to foster self-expression, organization of thought, and creativity. A wiki is a tool that allows members of a group to collaborate online when creating web pages, documents, or other types of media. Think Wikipedia for your own classes! The presentation will include brief demonstrations of each tool and suggestions on how they might be used to improve teaching and learning.
